Introduction: This course is an interactive course designed to students how to make effective use of the File-AID for DB, a self-contained DB2 database management and testing tool. File-AID for DB2 has interactive and batch features and is a menu-driven interface similar to ISPF. Students need access to the public EMP and DEPT tables (auth-id DSN8510), as well as to updatable EMP, DEPT, and PLAN_TABLES tables that have the student's or instructor's auth-id (XXDK). It is recommended that students be able to create objects of their own as well.

The class format is lecture with extensive hands-on exercises.

 Audience: Application developers, end users, and others who want to make effective use of the File-AID for DB2 tool.

Objective:  On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Make effective use of the File-AID for DB2 tool.
  • Interactively edit, browse and manipulate DB2 tables, views and other objects.
  • Create, populate, customize and refresh DB2 data.
  • Extract and load table data.
  • Generate SQL.
  • Create new objects.
  • Specify selection criteria.
  • View Explain analysis reports.
  • Prototype SQL code, using FADB2.
  • Show authorization reports for specific objects.
  • Connect to SPUFI and Xpediter.

 Prerequisites: The student should have general knowledge of File-AID ON-LINE (for TSO) is required as is a knowledge of TSO/ISPF and DB2/SQL.

Duration: This course is 1 day long.
