Introduction: File-AID is an interactive product that enhances programmer productivity in file handling and record maintenance. This course focuses on File-AID running under TSO and batch File-AID MVS. It presents the many features and functions of File-AID that will enhance programmer and user productivity. The File-AID analysis facilities are explored and extended to general analysis of any global maintenance change in program and data. The format of this class is lecture and extensive hands-on workshops. For follow-up courses please look at our one-day File-AID for DB2 or File-AID for IMS.

 Audience: Programmers and operations personnel and others responsible for maintenance of data files, and analysis of global data changes.

Objectives:  On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Use the powerful File-AID comparison, viewing, updating and printing tools and contrast File-AID with traditional ISPF.
  • Edit and Browse data using a variety of formatted viewing and selection techniques.
  • Create test beds of data.
  • Analyze programs for global modifications.
  • Run batch and online File-AID requests.
  • Create, manipulate, and alter VSAM clusters and data (optional)
  • Describe the latest enhancements to File-AID MVS

 Prerequisites: Experience using MVS TSO/ISPF. A strong knowledge of MVS data storage is recommended, as well as a working knowledge of basic JCL

Duration: This course is 3 days long.
