Introduction: RACF (Resource Access Control Facility) is IBM's security offering for its main-frame operating systems. RACF can be used to limit access to the services of an MVS or VM system. This course will concentrate on defining and implementing an effective security strategy for an MVS operating system. It will use hands-on computer exercises to support the classroom discussions.

The course will examine in detail how RACF can be used to control access to specific resources such as data sets, volumes and terminals. In addition, the protection of such facilities as operator commands and system services will be covered in detail.

  • produce audit trails of attempted security violations
  • tune the RACF data base for maximum performance and recovery
